The Whitney Young speech at the AIA conference more than 50 years ago highlighted the lack of representation in the architecture profession. Considering that little progress has been made since then, think about the following questions:
What are some barriers that might contribute to a lower diversity representation in the profession compared to the population?
What if we believed that every person who walked in the door was as qualified as anyone else and could do the job as well as anyone else?
What do you think prevents us from thinking differently about who is talented and who isn’t?

Think about the video segment by Mabel O Wilson, you just watched and share your thoughts on the following questions:
“As a Black American, I feel an internal pride of gazing upon every brick, every pillar, and every garden at the University and knowing that this fraught past has birthed and undeniably beautiful present…” What is implicit or explicit in the quote cited by the speaker above?
When the speaker states that “Jefferson understood that slavery was abhorrent and employed architecture to conceal it,” can you think of other instances, past or present, when architecture may have been used in similar ways?
